One day Auntie passed Jabu an envelope addressed to him.

“Your mail Sir,” she said sarcastically.

They were barely on talking terms after she had caught him leaving home with his surfboard one morning. Jabu had held his ground and said that he intended to continue surfing and she couldn’t stop him. That’s when the final warning came.

“If you don’t find a job by the end of the year, you’re going to have to move out. Why should my babies go without? In truth, I can’t afford to keep you anymore,” she said, sounding regretful.

Jabu took the envelope and went outside to read it. He sat on the dusty ground amongst the chickens and read.
